Facebook API Changes on April 4th, 2018

Facebook Changes

Facebook has decided to retire API endpoints without warning to anyone on April 4th, 2018. This affecting parts of our plugin Feed Them Social. It will no longer be possible to display feeds from Groups at this time. Facebook has effectively cut off these feeds from working. We may be able to regain access to them through a new app process which may not be in motion for several weeks.

We apologize for any inconvenience and also for not being able to give you any prior warning to this happening due to Facebook not giving us the opportunity. Please know we will be diligently working on improving Feed Them Social to adapt to these changes if and when they become available.

You can read specific details about the changes here: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2018/04/04/facebook-api-platform-product-changes/ and here https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2018/04/restricting-data-access/

UPDATE (April 9th, 2018):Β Facebook Events: It is now required that you use a page access token. The page access token must be for that facebook page for it to work. An APP ID will not work anymore. Posts for a specific event will not work though since FB retired that endpoint.

UPDATE (April 19th, 2018):Β Facebook Reviews: The profile link referencing the person who left the review have been removed from the API due to privacy changes. We will be updating our plugin accordingly in the next week.

    Hi guys!

So this means i can’t use a query like this anymore?

    https://graph.facebook.com/116403805045358/events?access_token=

I need to be the admin of the page (or at least know the page access token) to get the events of this page (location)?

    Thanks,
    Rob

  2. Correct, you need to be the admin of that page to get an access token from the Facebook Options page of our plugin or the client must give it to you, or be the one who clicks the button on the Facebook Options page of our plugin.

    • Hey,
isnΒ΄t that just a solution for an hour or so?
After some time I always get thew following message:
#190 – Error validating application. Invalid application ID. Here are some possible solutions to fix the error.

I used the Page Access Token. Generated as explained here:
      https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8231877/facebook-access-token-for-pages

With the other available tokens (App Token, User Token) I got: (as aspected)
Error: (#200) Access to this data is temporarily disabled for non-active apps or apps that have not recently accessed this data due to changes we are making to the Facebook Platform. https://developers.facebook.com/status/issues/205942813488872/
      Type: OAuthException
      Code: 200

      • If you need assistance with our plugin and these problems please contact us at support @ slickremix.com. We will not be following up to assist with problems in the comments section. If you are clicking the button to get an access token from the Facebook Options page of our plugin then your facebook page feed or events feed should work ok. The token you receive from our plugin is a long lived token and not a short one. Group feeds will not work no matter what you do at this time.

  3. Thanks for keeping us up to date Rob. Am I right in thinking that feeds from Facebook groups are still not possible? I understand from your post that Facebook Pages are working but not groups yet? Is that right?

  4. I am an admin of 2 different pages.

    Even with admin acces token

The post function is visible so all posts placrd on the page will be shown.
The event data is not visible , no events will show its just an empty spot.

    • It’s becoming more apparent that the events feed is not going to work according to facebook. It’s been down for the last 2 days for us as well.
